A Guide to Qualifying for Home Electrification Rebates

Are you ready to make your home more energy-efficient? Farmers and corporations aren’t the only groups that can benefit from government energy programs. The new Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program is available for a wide range of people. That means you can be eligible to save money on purchasing equipment and installation to make your home more energy efficient.

Harker Heating & Cooling leads the way in energy-efficient solutions and stays up-to-date with the latest legislation. Discover how this new program can help you save energy, save money and meet your heating and cooling service needs more efficiently.

Who Is Qualified?

This program is available to households with an annual income of less than 150% of the area median income (AMI). A household includes all individuals living in the home, regardless of relation. You may be asked to provide income documentation when applying. Qualified new or existing single- and multi-family homes are welcome to participate.

How Can You Qualify?

There are three easy steps to qualify for the HEAR program and start saving money.

First, you must complete the income qualification to verify the total household annual income is less than 150% of the AMI. Completing this process virtually is quicker, but there is an option to print and mail your documents. Additionally, we encourage you to have your verification forms up and ready to go!

It’s important to note that if you were already approved for the Home Efficiency Rebate (HOMES) Program you are automatically approved for the HEAR program.

Next, once you are approved for qualification, you choose your  Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Registered Contractor who will assist you in selecting the best qualifying equipment for your home. As an (IRA) Registered Contractor, allow Harker Heating and Cooling to be your trusted HVAC specialists in choosing the energy and cost-saving equipment that is best suited for you and your home. As specialists serving Dane County for over 70 years, we stay up-to-date with the latest legislation to find the top qualifying equipment for your home.

Finally, you are ready to have your new approved energy-efficient equipment installed. Your rebate will be applied as an instant discount right on your invoice.

Are There Any Special Cases Or Nuances I Should Know About?

Before you look to apply for a rebate, there are a few things you should keep in mind.  A single household cannot receive more than $14,000 total in rebate dollars from the HEAR program.

ENERGY STAR equipment is approved for the HEAR program rebates. These products are certified to meet energy efficiency standards that are set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Some examples include electric heat pumps and water heaters, electrical wiring and air sealing, and ventilation.

Additionally, rebates are available only when upgrading from a non-electric appliance, and retroactive rebates are not available for the HEAR program. Although a household can qualify for both the HOMES and HEAR programs, a single household address may only receive rebates from one program.
